Revisit Heatmaps provide a powerful visual representation of how users interact with your website. By aggregating click data, you can instantly spot which areas grab attention and which are ignored.
Creating Your First Heatmap
Navigate to Heatmaps in the sidebar.
Click the Create Heatmap button.
Enter a descriptive Name (e.g., "Homepage" or "Checkout Flow").
Set the URL Pattern to define which pages to track.
URL Matching Options
Exact: Matches the URL exactly (e.g., /pricing).
Contains: Matches if the URL contains the text (e.g., product matches /product/123).
Starts with: Matches URLs starting with the pattern.
Regex: Advanced pattern matching using regular expressions.
Capturing Snapshots
A snapshot is a static image of your page that Revisit overlays data on. You can capture snapshots for Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile devices.
Auto-capture: For "Exact" URL patterns, Revisit can automatically capture snapshots for all devices.
Manual capture: You can retake snapshots at any time to reflect design changes.
Dynamic content: For pages behind login or with dynamic states, you can navigate to the exact state in the capture window before taking the snapshot.
Analyzing User Behavior
Once your heatmap is gathering data, you can analyze it using different views and settings.
Heatmap Types
Click: Hotspots where users click.
Move: Mouse movement tracking (desktop only).
Scroll: Scroll depth and engagement.
Visual Settings
Strength: Intensity of the hotspots.
Spread: Radius of each point.
Opacity: Transparency of the overlay.
Advanced Insights
Revisit goes beyond basic heatmaps with smart frustration detection.
Rage Click Detection
Identifies moments of user frustration where a user rapidly clicks the same area multiple times.
Look for pulsing red circles with exclamation marks.
Dead Click Detection
Highlights clicks on non-interactive elements, helping you find confusing UI components (like images that look like buttons).
Look for gray markers with question marks.
Rankings & Session Replay
Connect quantitative data with qualitative context.
Element Rankings: The sidebar lists every clicked element, ranked by popularity. Click any item to highlight it on the heatmap.
Session Integration: Click the Play button next to any element in the rankings to see a list of sessions that interacted with it. Watch the replay to understand why they clicked.
